trace, I went to your Blog and read about your Sam. I tried to leave you a comment but for some reason it wouldn't let me in, even when I signed in to do so, an error would pop up. So here I will have to leave my comment and I will hope that you will see it. I will pray for Sam.

We love them but we can't always make them do what we know is right for their health! I feel like your fathers words to you, good health is the important thing; wealth, youth, beauty, pale in comparison .
If only he could stop smoking after all this is over. If you can't bring it home to him to stop smoking for himself maybe he can do it for his family, that he would devastate with his lose!

Try the star system. My mother when I was growing up, would make a chart and she bought different colored stars for it. She would put these stars on the chart, different colors for,*bad, **fair, ***beter,****good and the ***** "Gold star" the best (whether it was for breaking a bad habit or getting a chore done) a certain amount of gold stars in the week and we would get a treat for those gold stars, like the movies or the sweet shop or something.

I know your thinking what does that have to do with your Sam stopping smoking but men are a lot like children, ha, ha! Its all a matter of dangling the right carrot in front of them! Did I mention that men are a little like jack a.... I mean mules, too,LOL!

Anyway it is something the whole family could participate in. The children could be the oness who place the stars on Sam's chart. Stars for... making it a whole day without a smoke or only one smoke, etc., would be up to you. Prizes at the end of a gold star week could be, Candle light dinner, pizza out, king for the day, what ever it takes, it would be all up to you! Breaking Sams bad habit could not only make Sam a healthy, happy man that you can LOVE for soooo many more years longer, but be fun for the whole family at the same time! Try it, it can't hurt.

Faira--don't know why you couldn't get into my site for your comment. I am so sorry for the trouble you had. I will check it out to see what's going on.

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement; and also for your wonderful suggestions. You are so right that men are like children, and jack-a...--indeed! I have been saying this all week. The star chart sounds wonderful. I may try something like it, though I don't have children at home anymore to participate. We did not have biological children of our own; sadly for me. However, we did help raise foster children. We were foster parents for the department of social services for 7 years. We have a daughter out of that deal who was with us from 14-20. She came back home for a bit in February, at 22. She is in her own apartment now, and presently angry with me. It takes them a while to grow up these days. I really wish I could have gotten this young'en when she was born. She and I are so much alike, and also so very different in ways. I miss her...

I got off the subject of Sam for a moment. I appreciate you for offering your prayers and ideas. Thank you...

Trace, I tried again, I even signed up for the reader account that you have on your side bar. But still no luck. I am certain it is something I am doing wrong. I have been away from my Blog most of the summer and I have to get back into it. My daughter has access to my Blog so I will ask her to try for me and she can then tell me what I am doing wrong.
I really enjoyed your photos on Flicker!

Oh my; bless you in your efforts! Some people have left comments here and there. I hope everyone is not running into the same problem. The people from eponym who are there to help answer questions such as these, won't be back in their offices until Monday. Maybe I can find out something then. You may not be doing anything wrong at all.
I'm glas ya' liked the pictures. The ones of me are not very recent. I have a hair cut now. Gonna' have to get some new photos posted soon.
I really appreciate your visiting my site. I have only been blogging since June of this year. I really enjoy it. Puts me in touch with the whole world, it seems.
